Our school ipet...Sphero

Thank you Mrs. Morgan for introducing us to our school pet, named Sphero.  The children got to use the ipad to control where Sphero went.  They LOVED it!  I told them to make him go to the person who's name begins with H.  Next, go to the person that begins with J and has 6 letters in his name, etc.  They had so much fun!

Thankful Human Letters Placemat for Thanksgiving

Isn't this the cutest place mat you have ever seen?!  I had my little guys lay on the floor and form the different letters.  I took a picture, laid it on the page and then put transparent letters on top.  I asked the children what they would like to put as the things we are thankful for.  Then I added that to the page.  Next I printed, taped together, and printed on a color copier on 11 x 17" paper.  I had them write the one thing they are most thankful for on the back and then I laminated them.
And tada!  Thanksgiving placemats with a very personal touch.

ipad Day in Kindergarten 2014! Yippee!

If you know me, you know that I LOVE technology.  So each week we get to use a class set of ipads in our classroom.  Today we did Dreambox Math.

Teddy Bear Sleepover 2014

So to convince my little guys that they are writers, I have a teddy bear sleepover.  Everyone brings a stuffed animal, we talk about sleepovers, making new friends, we read sleepover books, then we tuck them in and say goodnight.  When we are all gone, those naughty bears order pizza, take out all the games, pull out the tissue, and turn on all the computers!  Can you believe the mess and the excitement that this creates?!  So, I take pictures, print them out, hand them to my very eager students, and tell them that we have to write about it so we can tell and show other people.  Ta-da!  We are authors!

Getting Ready for School...

I love this time of year when a new school session begins.  The excitement, the anticipation, the preparation, and the energy.  So this is what my classroom looked like when I returned.

I love how clean everything is, but it is a lot of work to get it ready and organized before August 11!  Yikes it is in 12 days!  So far I have my entrance wall finished, my calendar started, and my ceiling decorated.  I want it to be a happy place to learn and work.

I painted my old mailbox so now it looks beautiful.

I put colored masking tape on the edges to help the children find the right box.  I will also attach their pictures with Velcro.
I made new calendar pieces and attached them to my magnetic calendar board that I purchased from Wal-mart.
